Max clocks most laps on first morning of testing

Published on 19 February 2020 by Stefan Meens

Max Verstappen started his 2020 Formula 1 testing campaign with a productive morning session. The Aston Martin Red Bull Racing driver lapped the Circuit de Barcelona Catalunya 91 times, more than any of the other nine drivers out on track. Max’ best effort was as 1:17.787, the third fastest lap of the Wednesday morning.

When the pit light goes green at 9am local time, Max is one of the first drivers to take to the track. After a faultless installation lap without issues, the Dutchman sets about collecting as much data as possible. Unlike other teams, Red Bull’s new car, the RB16, is not sporting aero-racks.

At the half-way mark, Max has clocked 53 laps. Only Valtteri Bottas (Mercedes) and Carlos Sainz (McLaren) come close with respectively 44 laps for the Finn and 42 laps for the Spaniard.

In the remainder of the session, Red Bull Racing add another 38 laps to their tally with only Valtteri Bottas (1:17.375) and Sergio Perez (1:17.375) lapping quicker than Max Verstappen.
