Chinese Grand Prix postponed

Published on 12 February 2020 by Julien Lemmen

The FIA, together with Formula 1, have jointly decided to accept an official request from the promoter to postpone the 2020 FIA Formula 1 Chinese Grand Prix, originally scheduled for 19th April. In view of the continuing spread of novel coronavirus, it was decided to postpone the 2020 Formula 1 Chinese Grand Prix.

As a result of ongoing health concerns, the FIA and Formula 1 have taken these measures in order to ensure the health and safety of the travelling staff, championship participants and fans. The FIA and Formula 1 continue to work closely with the teams, race promoter, and the local authorities to monitor the situation as it develops. All parties will look at potential alternative dates for the Grand Prix later in the year should the situation improve.

This means that there will be no race between the two new additions to the calendar, the first Vietnam Grand Prix on the 5th of April and the returning Dutch Grand Prix on the 3rd of May.
