Pirelli announces tyre choices for China Grand Prix

Published on 02 April 2019 by Kees-Jan Koster

Pirelli, the tyre supplier for the Formula 1, has announced the tyre choices the different teams have made for the China Grand Prix. During the race weekend on the Shanghai International Circuit, the teams have at their disposal the middle three compounds, those are the C2, the C3 and the C4. The C2 (the hardest compound) is the white striped tyre, while the C3 (medium) and the C4 (soft) are respectively yellow and red striped.

What stands out is that almost all drivers in the top teams have made different choices, while both Ferraris and Pierre Gasly, with seven sets of soft tyres, chose for the least aggressive option. Charles Leclerc chose to take one more set of the medium tyres than Vettel and Gasly.

Lewis Hamilton, Valtteri Bottas and Max Verstappen all chose for eight sets of the soft tyres, while Bottas and Max chose to take one set less of the medium tyres, and one set more of the hard tyres, than reigning world champion Hamilton.
